Disneyland from hellīut easily our favourite mode coming to Infinite Warfare is the new zombies action, called Zombies in Spaceland. It's hilarious fun and requires a lot of teamwork and shouting to pull off, but it's totally worth it. There's even a brand new mode this year called Defender, which actually plays out a lot like Halo's Oddball and is basically a gunfire-fuelled game of keep-away where you need to grab the ball and hold onto it for as long as you possibly can before the other team pinches it or it gets reset back to the central point. It's all cleverly done, and doesn't diminish what's still a top-notch multiplayer experience. It's obviously built for eSports too now, with each map carefully balanced with various channels running through them and action hotpoints that are just ripe for streaming potential. There are three more to unlock, which go even further into the combat specialisms, with what's basically a sniper class, a tank or a CQC expert. The Synaptic is actually a remote controlled drone that you play as yourself, but it has some pretty sick Payloads – the new special abilities that each of the Combat Rigs has, such as the Equalizers, a pair of impressive automatic laser pistols, and the Reaper, which turns you into a super-powered melee dog mech. There's the Warfighter, which is the most accessible of the rigs, offering you pretty much the all-rounder options that work at mid-range or up close and personal. When you start playing the multiplayer, you get access to just three of the six available offering long, mid- and close-range combat specialisms. They're basically technologically enhanced military armour that gives you skills that favour specific play styles. Instead of rolling with the Specialists introduced in Black Ops 3, Infinity Ward has opted for its own variants known as Combat Rigs. First there's your best bud, Lieutenant Nora Salter, who's a sassy-ass lady that everyone will want on their team. Thankfully, you're supported by an amazing crew. And that's especially true as soon after the game starts, there's a sudden and rather horrific attack on Earth and you're immediately promoted to Captain.Īnd then it really is you calling all the shots. There's no following orders, no waiting in doorways for the signal to breach, it's all you, baby. You play as Nick Reyes, and for the first time in like forever, you're actually in charge in a Call of Duty game. And that's mainly because of the characters. What we've ended up with isn't quite at that level, but it is an impressive feat nonetheless. Here's the latest game from the studio that brought you Modern Warfare's excellent storyline, with its memorable characters like Soap and Price, and from what we'd seen previously, it oozed with the potential to be a high-quality sci-fi story.
